# 🤔 Choose Reasoning Amount for GPT-5 (& others)!

GPT-5 taking too long? Worry no more. Pickaxe has added the ability for you as a builder to choose the reasoning amount these models perform. Simply head over to the [builder](https://pickaxe.co/builder), and select GPT-5 (or one of the other supported reasoning models, like Openai o1) and _ **viola** _!

@zachansen we don’t think that Claude’s API supports regular vs. extended thinking mode, so unfortunately we can’t make that change - but if newer models allow this, we will absolutely add it!

Maybe a way to pass through the amount of reasoning then? If I go to the API settings, I can turn reasoning on or off and there’s a slider there that dictates how much it can reason.

@zachansen I don’t think you can toggle reasoning on/off with Claude API.

You can toggle the “Thinking” with a budget token amount so my assumption would be you can somehow 🤔
