# If a user uploads multiple documents …

From the customer side, how do multiple uploads work?
For instance, I have 3 payment tiers set up ($10 for 10 uses, $25 for 50 uses, $50 to 100 uses), so people can upload files. I want the “rule” to be “1 file upload = 1 credit”. So 10 uses = 10 files total.
But can people potentially upload 10+ files per conversation? Is there a way to limit their uploads to just 1 file at a time? Thanks!

Here is a post about [how end-user file uploads work](https://community.pickaxe.co/t/allow-document-upload-for-chat-session-only/396) within Pickaxes. In a nutshell, they can only upload files one a time.
There is no way to place a limit on how many files an end-user can upload into a Pickaxe which has end-user upload enabled. If you’ve enabled that setting, they can upload as many files as they want. They only last for the duration of that user session.

I don’t see the point. of charging for this as soon as they are done, so is the document. I thought initially that the document would go into the knlwedge base, but sadly it does not.

I don’t fully understane you @ihmunro, but to clarify, they do go into the knowledge base. And we show them to the model as best we can when possible in their entirety. And they don’t count against document limits on the tool. And as soon as their conversation is over (or for forms, on each use of the form), the tool does not look at their older uploaded documents.

You say “they can only upload files one a time.” yet when I test this I can select multiple files for uploading. I just don’t want people uploading 10 documents per session!

If you have enabled end-user upload on a Pickaxe (which means there is a paperclip icon and you allow your users to uplaod their own documents), they can only upload one file for each message.
If you click the paperclip icon and select two files, you’ll find that only one is uploaded.
After sending a message and receiving a response from the Pickaxe, you can then upload another file for the next interaction.

Ok I see that @admin_mike thanks.
My test customers are finding that a little confusing. They can still select multiple files for uploading, leading them to think that that can bulk upload files to be operated on.
This might also be costing me more in terms of credits if multiple files are being processed?
Is there any way to have that file picker have a limit of 1 file?
And if they do select and include multiple files, are all of them processed? Or just the “first”? But which one is the “first”?

I will work on engineering and pushing a change that will cause end-users to only be able to select one file when uploading their own file.

And if the intention is for a user to, for example, compare two or more documents to identify their differences or other details, how could they perform this task if they are only allowed to upload one?

If I use a form (instead of a chatbot), then users can only upload one file at a time.
Is there a way to have each session only consists of one file upload and one response, after which the user can’t add more files and try again?

Yes, correct. If you are working with a Smart Form, then the end-user can only upload one file.
In a chatbot, they can upload multiple files, as long as they do each additional file upload as a new message. Within the chatbot builder, unfortunately there is no setting which only allows end-users to upload one file max per conversation.

@admin_mike Just for more context: I’m building a pickaxe that is a bit different: Instead of relying heavily on users’ text, it analyses images to come up with detailed descriptions. To do so, I need to be able to upload more than 1 image. Is it possible to implement or is it a limitation of the LLMs?

We will consider it! The current workaround is the end-user can upload file #1, then in a new message upload file #2. And you can structure your prompt and your token settings to accommodate this flow.
