I had a workspace set to Google login and that worked great, but there are a couple users who do not have google logins through their employer, so I enabled the Email & Password option on that workspace.

The login page looks correct but if you put in your email and click ‘continue’ on the login screen, it takes you to a page where you can click for a magic link. The magic link never arrives.

So I went ahead and disabled email and password and enabled magic link and that works, that will send a magic link. But I don’t want to use the magic link. I’d rather they set their own password than use magic link.

How can we enable email and passwords (which we used to use exclusively, but now all of our customer workspaces are using Google login and the email/password feature has apparently changed)?

Hello @unifiedleadership!

Can you send over the emails of the users who never received their magic links? Usually when we hear about this issue, it means that the emails got sent to their spam folder. One possible workaround for your users would be to have them set a password in their account settings. With the email and password option enabled they would no longer have to request a magic link!

Hi @kyle_support, I think you misunderstood my issue.

I had Google login enabled. Users were already set up. Invite only. I turned on the user name and password option to accomodate someone who did not have a Google account. I did not turn on Magic Link at that point, but when they went to log in, it took them to the Magic Link screen (again, even though I had it turned off it asked to send them a Magic Link) and that email did not come through. I used my email to test it and that’s when I noticed all of this. I checked spam and junk and all the places.

So then I decided to turn off user name and password and turn on Magic Link and test again, this time the link did come through in the spam folder. But I don’t want to use Magic Link. I want them to log into their account with a password.

I hope that is clearer.

Hi @unifiedleadership,

Users without passwords(users that signed up with Google Auth) who try to login using the email and password option will be sent a magic link. This is because they don’t have a password set so the fallback will always be a magic link. This applies even if you don’t have the magic link option enabled.

For passwordless users, please ensure that if they signed up with Google Auth, they are using the Google sign in option. If your users without a password aren’t receiving the magic link, this is a real issue that we need to address. Please provide us with the emails of your users who didn’t receive an email so we can investigate what happened to their magic links! If you feel like I am still misunderstanding the issue, please feel free to send over a video to clarify!

Kyle, this is a change from how it had been before. It used to be that the system would send you a password reset email if you had been set up without a password.

My users don’t setup/request accounts on their own, their employer sends me a list of users and I set them up with access to the correct workspace/portal/access via API. Then I send them a specifically branded email with first time login instructions (like “if you’re not a Google user, enter your email address and request a password reset.”)

So now when users are set up via API without password, their only option to login with their non-gmail account is a Magic Link? I tested it and it doesn’t seem like there is a way in the portal to set your password. So they are forever stuck needing to request a Magic Link each time they log in?

Hi @unifiedleadership,

Thanks for clarifying the issue! We have created a ticket under PRD-1358 to address passwordless users being forced to request a magic link to sign in. We’ll give you an update when the ticket gets resolved.

The magic link not sending emails to your users is another issue. We tried it out on our end and found that the flow was working properly. Please provide some more context, emails, and images that outline this issue if possible!

Hi @unifiedleadership,

Good news! We just added the ability for users who signed in with Google Auth to create a password on the same sign in page!

This method does require an email to be sent. We tested this out on our end and found that emails are being sent properly! If your users are still experiencing issues receiving emails from us, please let us know so we can resolve this issue for you!
