🚀 Gemini 3.1 Flash Preview is now available on Pickaxe

As many of you have already noticed, it quietly showed up… and yes, you can start using it right away :eyes:

This is Google’s latest lightweight model in the Gemini family, and it’s clearly built with one goal in mind: speed + efficiency without sacrificing too much capability.

Gemini 3.1 Flash Lite Preview AI Model Selector

What feels different?

A few things stand out right away:

  • Faster responses → noticeably snappier than most mid-tier models

  • Lower cost profile → great for high-volume tools and monetized Pickaxes

  • Optimized for simple + repetitive tasks → handles structured prompts really well

  • More stable outputs → less “creative drift,” more predictable behavior

Think of it as a model you can trust for consistent, scalable workflows rather than deep reasoning or long-form creativity.

Where it really shines

If you’re building on Pickaxe, this model fits nicely into workflows where:

  • You expect lots of users or high usage

  • Your prompts are well-defined and structured

  • You want to control costs while scaling

Given how Pickaxe works as a no-code platform for building, sharing, and monetizing AI tools , having a fast + affordable model like this opens up a lot of room to experiment without worrying about burn.

Builders who might find this especially useful

  • :briefcase: Monetized tool creators
Running subscriptions or credit-based usage? This helps protect your margins.

  • :receipt: Form-based Pickaxes
Structured inputs → structured outputs. Perfect match.

  • :bar_chart: Automation-heavy workflows
Repetitive tasks like summaries, tagging, classification, cleanup.

  • :brain: Internal tools / business utilities
When you need reliability over creativity.

  • :globe_showing_europe_africa: High-traffic public tools
Great option when you expect scale but want to keep things smooth and affordable.

If you’ve already tested it, curious what you’re seeing.
Does it replace any of your existing models, or are you using it alongside others?

Excellent!

Although technically you launch Gemini 3.1 Flash-Lite not Gemini 3.1 Flash, which isn’t out yet.

I wonder why Google launched Gemini 3.1 Flash-Lite before the Gemini 3.1 Flash.

The Gemini Flash-Lite models are the even cheaper and faster than Gemini Flash. But I don’t think Gemini Flash-Lite does any reasoning. So this is like talking to Chat GPT 3.5.

Warning: If you are using Gemini 3 Flash in a pickaxe, switching to Gemini 3.1 Flash-Lite is not an upgrade. This new flash-lite model is cheaper, faster and dumber. So test before switching.
