I have a bot that gives people great information about a topic, and want to make sure that I get their name and email address.
When I leave it to the end of the chat, it works, but the details I want (name and email address) are inside the chat. So I have to manually extract the email.
If I use a form in the beginning, there’s a level of friction. A significant portion of people will turn away and not bother.
Ideally I want the users to be ‘wowed’ first, and then capture their email address, becuase it is valuable and I can send a report and details of the discussion.
However, I cannot see how to do this efficiently? Ideally I coudl make a form pop up after the chat, which when filled out sends a summary of the conversation and a PDF.
How can I effciently capture emails after the chat (and value is proven) without unneccessary friction?
Adding a form at the start is the most reliable way to make sure you capture the email, but I agree it creates friction and some users will bounce. Asking at the end has the same issue in a different form… many people simply finish the chat and close the window. If you request it through the prompt, most users will not share their email unless there is a very strong incentive.
Another option is enabling login, which guarantees you get the email but also adds a clear barrier up front.
I’ll leave this to others in the community as well. Curious if anyone has found a setup that maximizes both capture rate and user flow.
Give clients genuinely great value and ask for the email address, the right clients… and then a high percentage will in my experience with different marketing methods give their email address
For lead gen on cold traffic, you have to create great value up front… very few people will give away their valuable email address without this. I wouldn’t and the best clients barely ever will.
It dilutes the quality of leads and increases the cost per lead not great a great combination!
This is basic marketing and human psychology
So this, for people who want to create bots that are lead magnets is very important
Really appreciate the feedback as always , you’re always very helpful and thank you.
Meant to say shout out to the pickaxe team for integrating chat GPT 5.1. Its made a big difference to the output
