How to Clone a Studio (and why)

Several customers have asked questions about cloning or recreating studios. I thought it high-time to write a post on the subject.

Why Clone a Studio
Sometimes setting up a studio takes a lot of work. If you want to offer slightly different versions of the same studio, then cloning will save you a lot of time.

When you clone a studio you keep the:

  • Design
  • Copy + Images
  • Pricing tiers
  • All Tools
  • All the settings
  • Tiers
  • Connected Stripe account

Importantly, you do not keep the:

  • Registered users/accounts
  • Custom domain

How to Clone a Studio
To clone an existing studio, follow these steps:

  • Navigate to your Dashboard
  • Locate the Studio you want to clone.
  • Click on the three dots in the lower right hand corner of the Studio.
  • Choose “Clone” from the dropdown.
  • The new studio will appear in your dashboard.

Is it possible to make a studio cloneable to other users who have the link to your studio?

Specifically, this is the easiest way to develop pickaxes for clients that they will be using on their own account.

Simply make the pickaxe clonable, go to it on the new pickaxe account and hit clone and it’s instantly in your clients dashboard.

Would this approach also work for studios?

We are discussing the ability of creating studios and transferring them to other users somehow. We think we are going to make this feature and put it in the Pro feature for serious Pickaxe creators.

Hello, I do not see the clone option under Edit/Share/Delete as you have depicted. Can you please advise? I just upgraded to PRO version.

This thread originated before the redesign. I’m not sure the current state of cloning Pickaxes and Studios, but I can see how it would need to work differently with the new approach.

hey @admin_mike a question about this and cannot seem to find the answer anywhere. I’m running into an issue when trying to add myself (and others) as users across multiple studios in Pickaxe.

Even though I already have an existing account/login, when I get invited to a new studio, Pickaxe doesn’t recognize my existing login — it forces me to create an entirely new account for that studio instead of letting me access it under my existing login.

What’s Happening (Step-by-Step)

  1. I already have an account created under my email.

  2. When I get invited to a new studio, I receive an email invitation.

  3. If I click “Log in” (using my existing account), Pickaxe says my account doesn’t exist in that studio.

  4. If I click “Join” and create an account again, it lets me in — but it creates a separate account instance for that studio.

  5. That means every studio has a different login and URL, even though it’s the same email address.

So right now, users who purchase multiple products (each linked to a different studio) need to have multiple separate logins instead of one unified account.

What I’ve Noticed in the Backend

  • Under Manage Users, I can add people to a studio, but I can’t assign them to specific knowledge bases within that studio.

  • Webhooks/Zapier only allow me to add users to a studio — not to a specific knowledge base inside that studio.

  • Because of that, I can’t automate access to individual AI knowledge bases and products inside one master studio.

What I’m Trying to Achieve

Ideally, I’d like:

  • One master studio that houses multiple knowledge bases.

  • The ability to automatically grant users access to specific knowledge bases inside that one studio — based on what they purchased — without forcing multiple accounts or URLs.

You are right that each Studio in Pickaxe has its own login system. This setup exists because every Studio can belong to a different business owner or creator. Each one manages its own data, users, payments, and permissions separately. For privacy and security, Pickaxe keeps these environments completely independent.

That is why, even if you use the same email address, the system will ask you to create a new account for each Studio. It works much like joining different company workspaces.

If you want a unified login experience, the simplest way is to create one main Studio and keep multiple Pickaxes inside it. You can organize your tools and knowledge bases within that single Studio and use Products in the Access tab to control who gets access to which Pickaxe. This approach gives your users one login and one smooth experience.

Others in the community who use Zapier or similar tools might be able to share some ideas on how they manage access or automation around this setup.
