Make Mobile Usable

Mobile view looks good.

The typing experience on Android is horrific.

If I hit “enter" for a new line, it sends the message.

Would love a fix for that so that you can write properly on mobile

Hi @zachansen ,
Thank you for your feedback.

I have brought this up to our team for discussion. I just tested this on iOS, and pressing Shift before tapping Enter or Return creates a new line. Could you please check if this works for you on your device?

I just tried on a Google Pixel 9 Pro XL….
YES! pressing Shift before tapping Enter or Return creates a new line!
Good news!

Hi @dougfresh ,
Thank you for sharing and confirming that this method works on Android as well.

If you don’t mind me asking, would you prefer to keep the current setup with the send button, or would you rather have Enter create a new line? We have heard from users who prefer different approaches, so we are trying to gather more feedback.

I much prefer the enter to create a new line and the send to be for sending. I also think that is how the “big 3” apps work so users are more familiar with that.
Thanks for the interaction.

Hi @danny_support I definitely agree with @dougfresh . I like the send to send and the enter to create a new line. It is very natural in my typing and unlike most other mobile apps that I’m familiar with.

I agree as well. When operating on a smartphone, pressing Enter automatically sends the content. I also use Gemini regularly, but there the Enter key creates a line break. Since I’m accustomed to this, I end up making operational errors when using my smartphone.

Gemini is the od one

everything else is Enter to send.

Please dont change it

I’m a regular user of Gemini, but GPT and Claude behave the same way. This discussion is about operating on smartphones. On PCs, it’s common to press Enter to send, and to create a line break, you press Shift + Enter.

Hi everyone! @zachansen @dougfresh @avakero @enochleffingwell

I’m happy to share that we have updated the mobile experience. Pressing Enter will now create a new line instead of sending the message.

We are very grateful for all of the feedback you shared here. Please let us know if you notice any issues with this update or have further suggestions, as your input helps us continue improving the platform.

Thanks Danny! Appreciate it

Thank you very much. This may seem like a subtle change, but it has significantly improved the UX.

:100: yes! Completely agree with you on this one. Why fight natural user behavior?

How can I get this same behavior in the website? This should be a chatbot setting.

Hi @anelion ,

Could you please clarify what you meant? In the mobile version of the site, pressing Enter should now create a new line. The functionality in the desktop version remains unchanged, where you can create a new line by pressing Shift + Enter.

I want the option to have the enter key create a new line in the desktop version the same as the mobile version.

Hi @anelion ,
Most platforms follow the convention where pressing Enter sends the message, and Shift + Enter creates a new line on desktop. We’re aligning with that best practice to maintain a familiar and consistent experience for users.

I am not saying don’t do that. I am saying to offer the option as a pickaxe setting to not do it.
I use other chatbots that have this functionality.

Thank you for your feedback. We encourage you to create a post under Feature Requests so other users can vote and share their input. Requests with high engagement are more likely to be prioritized. Our team is continuously working to expand customization options, and we will keep your suggestion in consideration for future updates.
