Output text has a black background

Description: When I copy text from a chat agent response and paste it into a word processing document (Word, Google Docs), the text pastes with a black background color. This happens in both the builder preview and the deployed direct-link interface.

The issue appears to be that the chat response bubble’s background color is included in the browser’s clipboard data when text is copied, rather than just the text and its direct formatting. The agent output itself contains no code blocks or special markdown — only bold subsection headings and plain body text.

Expected behavior: Copied text should paste as clean black text on a white/transparent background, preserving only the text’s own formatting (e.g., bold headings).

Actual behavior: Pasted text appears with a black background, requiring users to manually use “Paste as Plain Text” (Ctrl+Shift+V / Cmd+Shift+V) to get clean output.

For comparison: ChatGPT’s chat interface does not have this issue — text copied from a ChatGPT response pastes cleanly without any background color.

I share my agents with many users and some of them are not tech savvy so they give up on the agent because they can’t figure out the workaround for the black background on the text.

It would be great if you could address this bug and allow for copying and pasting without the black background.

We have resolved this issue over email! For anyone else who’s having the same issue, we have a great community post about how to get rid of the black background when copying output text! Here is a link to that community post: Copy Pickaxe Outputs as Plain Text With This Custom Script

In general, most UI stuff can be altered through the use of custom code! Our engineers worked really hard to get this to work so please try it out. You can always ask Codex/Claude Code to generate the code for you!
