I’m finalizing my Studio setup and need a quick confirmation on two points:
User Credit Stacking: Do a user’s monthly subscription credits stack/rollover if unused, or do they reset to the plan limit every billing cycle?
Post-Subscription Pickaxe Access: If a user’s subscription ends (at the end of their billing period) but they still have a remaining credit balance, are they effectively locked out of “Subscriber Only” tools despite having credits left? Or can they still use their remaining “fuel” until it hits zero?
Great questions, thanks for asking. Before I answer, I just want to let you know we’ll be changing the way this system works in the next 2 weeks as part of a big update, to make it better and easier to understand. So I’ll give you the “today” answer and the “next month” answer.
User Credit Stacking:Today: The credits stack. They don’t reset each billing cycle. After the upcoming update: The credits don’t stack, and will reset each cycle.
Post-Subscription Pickaxe Access: The answer to this question depends on whether you have locked the tool into the product. In both today’s system and in the upcoming system, there are ways to lock tools so only users with certain products can access them. Users retain access to the product until the end of the billing cycle, then automatically lose access. So, if the tool is properly locked, the user will lose access to it. If the tool is not locked, then it will work as you suggest, the user simply won’t get more uses, but will still have access to the tool.
I know this is a bit confusing. It’s one of our top priorities right now to make this easier, and we’re very excited to launch the new system soon. In the meantime, let us know if you have any more questions.
Wow now that’s some customer support. A prompt and clear answer to my first-ever (but probably not last!) question about Pickaxe. I’m building a fun service with Pickaxe and want to hold off on launching anything until I know exactly how the credit system works. Happy to wait until the update - appreciate the heads up!
