Since I updated to ChatGPT-5 my search inquiries by users are yielding a 30-45 second response time or no response at all… just a ‘spinning wheeel’
I’m getting LOTS of complaints that it is taking way too long
Thoughts on a fix to speed it up?

Hi @beaupierce ,
Thank you for reaching out!
From the Pickaxe side, our role is simply to connect to the model via API, we don’t control the underlying performance of GPT-5 itself. Since this model is relatively new, it’s seeing extremely high usage across the API, which can lead to slower response times or occasional delays.
Additionally, GPT-5 introduces a “Thinking” state, which is designed to handle more complex reasoning tasks. When a prompt requires significant information intake (such as long or complex queries) the model may take extra time to process before generating a response. This is similar to how ChatGPT sometimes displays a “thinking” indicator and then shows how long it spent reasoning before replying.
You might want to consider testing with other models to see if the issue is specific to GPT-5 or if there’s something else affecting performance.
