Nano Banana Image editing Model

Wouldn’t it be just amazing to have documentation?

We really like the recent updates — they’re moving in the right direction.

The main thing we’re hoping for now is an easier way to do sequential image editing in Nano Banana. Right now, every time we want to make another edit, we have to feed the image back into the API manually, or by pasting the URL in the chat.

It would be so much smoother if there was just a simple toggle or checkbox:

On → each new image automatically becomes the input for the next step.

Off → just do a one-shot image and stop there.

Honestly, this feels like it should be the default behavior, since one-shot use cases are already simple — people just generate an image once and move on.

Update: After beating on this feature today, we have Murphy’s Law.
Sometimes, we get overly creative interpretations instead of just revisions. It would be awesome to have a Temperature (?) type control, or do we have to prompt that?
Sometimes, the generated image does not come back.

@lindsay_support maybe the dev team can look into this. Enhancing API integration with Nano Banana can expand use-cases and allow users to make highly engaging and viral apps on Pickaxe! :eyes:

UPDATE: IT’S WORKING FOR ME!

It’s still a bit glitchy in that sometimes pickaxe doesn’t recognize that you’ve uploaded reference images. But I have successfully got it to work a handful of times! Even with multiple images

Thank you Pickaxe Team!

@stephenbdiaz Thanks for the work!
We have Nano Banana as a single action/generator/editor working well. It does ignore instructions sometimes, but that is likely an issue with NB itself.
We are hopeful to be able to use multiple image generators in the first round, and send the “winner” to Nano Banana, but haven’t gotten that to work.

Hey Stephen or Kenlyle, mine doesn’t seem to want to edit uploaded pictures. It works great if the image was generated by nano banana but it wont edit anything I upload. Any workarounds for this?

Working: Generate an image of a dog > make the dog bigger with a hat

Not Working: I take a picture of a dog > make the dog bigger with a hat

Hi @motheraigaia the issues with image editing (including with NB) should definitely have been resolved right now - would you mind sending some information (Pickaxe name) and documentation (video of issues) to info@pickaxeproject.com?

Hey Lindsay, it looks like it’s working now. I had a pretty new API for Nano Banana so maybe that was causing the issue.

Currently the biggest problem I see is that Nano Banana is passing back portrait pictures (snapped from my phone in portrait) sideways. I tried to specify in the prompt for it to return the images upright but it always resorts to sending portrait oriented pictures back sideways. It will also take a portrait oriented image and add sides to it, turning it into a horizontal image.

If I take the picture the landscape way it returns it fine (landscape comes back).

Does anyone have a workaround for this? In Nano Banana through the gemini interface it automatically matches your aspect ratio but when it goes through my pickaxe it always forces it to come back horizontal.

Any thoughts?

If you take a picture in portrait mode does nano banana pass it back in portrait mode or does it force it back landscape (either by making the picture sideways or adding extra image on the side of the portrait area)? I’m wondering if anyone was able to solve this.

Triple image editing seems to be handled best by qwen something plus right now.

I’d like to use Nanobanana too, but which action are you all using? Google AI Studio? Or fal.ai? I’m having trouble generating images properly with Google AI Studio, so I’m considering whether to switch to fal.

Hi @motheraigaia ,

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. The issue with portrait photos being returned in landscape orientation has been reported to our engineering team.

UPDATE: not working again. I did get it to work for a hot minute there.

Now it’s doing this thing again where it thinks it’s delivering a photo back but it’s not.

Then when you ask it where the photo is it pretends like it never got the original images.

In my case as well, I can generate images, but I cannot edit them.

It was wasn’t passing the image back to me earlier today either around 1PST but it seems to be back up and working fine now.

Pickaxe studios in general were down for a couple hours and are back up now. I couldn’t log in and my studio wasn’t working but that is resolved as well now. Maybe the 2 problems were related?

In the past when Nano Banana wasn’t passing the image back to me I went into the action settings, toggled it off, and toggled it back on and it started working again. Give that a try if it’s still not working.

We’ve officially updated this to v3 Nano Banana and the results are… wild
