Pickaxe shows whole reasoning to user in every answer

Hi all,

I’ve created several pickaxes, and one of them has recently started showing internal reasoning to the user. I’m not aware of any changes made to its settings.

The agent provides the answer, but before that it displays a message like “Thought for 3 seconds”. When you click on it, it reveals 2–3 paragraphs of internal reasoning, including prompt instructions.

Has anyone experienced something similar or could point me in the right direction?
Thank you very much.

Best regards

Hi @curro! This is a recently added feature - so not a bug. However, we have since added a toggle for “reveal thinking steps” to make sure that users can turn this off if they don’t want it, and hopefully this helps

Hi @lindsay_support ,

Thanks for your answer and for confirming that this is a new feature.

I found the “Display reasoning steps to users” toggle you mentioned. However, I noticed that even when this toggle is switched off, changing the “Reasoning” dropdown from “Off” to “Smart” still causes the thinking steps to be displayed.

For now, I will keep the “Reasoning” setting at “Off.”

Regards,

Curro

Hi @curro, is this still happening? I just gave it a go with the settings you described above, and it doesn’t look like the reasoning steps were displayed!

Reasoning will now show (if the switch isn’t off) on OpenAI and Grok models! So it’s important to make sure it’s off if you’d like to avoid it.

Hi @lindsay_support and @nathaniel, and thanks for your interest
Yes, it’s still happening, but only in the deployment (embedded version).

My settings are:

  1. Reasoning = Smart

  2. Display reasoning steps to users = Off (double checked)

In the normal chat window it works as expected — no reasoning is shown.
However, I also have a deployment, as I use the agent embedded on a page. In this case, the chat still shows the reasoning steps. What do you think could be causing this?

Thank you very much
Curro

Hi @curro, thanks for letting us know! I was able to find your embed and test it myself, and I now see what you’re talking about - I’ve passed the information on to our engineering team, and they will look into it ASAP!

Hi @curro, one of our engineers pushed a fix! I just tried it out with your embed and it worked okay for me - mind giving it a go and letting me know?

Hi @lindsay_support
Awesome! I just tested the embed and the reasoning no longer shows.
Thank you very much for looking into what was going on, and for the fast response — and even faster solution.
Best regards,
Curro
