"Missing" Login Option on Mobile

The new implementation of the “login” screen is (I assume) not really a bug but it´s so horrifically implemented that I feel like it needs to be treated as such as users can´t find it at all!

SItuation: User not logged in but on any pickaxe or page - on mobile

State now:

  • There is no visable Login/Signup anywhere as the User menu (upper right on desktop) was integreated into the main portal menu.
  • People can´t find this and I got a couple of emails from users that they don´t know how to login! It took me more than 5min to find that option myself!
  • I know that there is a link to login after they click on “Upgrade” but that Upgrade shouldn´t be there in the first place as it is tanking conversions for user sign up and confusing userers that are already paying!

Easy and logical solution:

  • Revert to old V1 one logic for the access control for LOGGED OUT users! Instead of “Upgrade” it HAS TO SHOW - Login/SignUp - this is regardless of the login option visable somewhere else.
  • S whenever a user is not logged in it has to show the LOGIN/SIGN UP page/option instead of Upgrade

The way it´s implemented right now is a total cathastrophe for the UX and Conversion.

Not registered users are hesitant to click on upgrade because they are not convinced yet to “upgrade” to a paid plan - so they don´t register at all as they don´t click!

Already paying customers don´t click on that because they are paying already and are looking for a login!

Anotehr elegant solution would be to give us an option to always show Login/signup for Mobile at the bottom of the Guest Portal that is used for not logged in users…

This needs to be addressed ASAP as it makes it pretty much unusable on mobile if users don´t know how to log in!

Hi @easydeutsch ,
Thank you for reaching out!

Currently on the platform, when a Portal is viewed on desktop by a logged-out user, the Log in and Sign up options should appear in the top right corner:

When the same Portal is viewed on mobile by a logged-out user, those options are currently located inside the main Portal menu:

Based on your message, I want to make sure I am understanding things correctly. When you say the login options are missing and users are instead seeing Upgrade, do you mean that the Log in and Sign up options are not appearing in the menu at all, or do you mean that users are not finding them because they are now hidden inside the menu rather than being visible directly on the screen?

I also wanted to clarify what exact behavior you would prefer on mobile. Would you like the Log in and Sign up buttons to be displayed directly on the mobile view, similar to the desktop experience, rather than requiring users to open the menu first?

Separately, our engineers have now made it possible to open the Sign In modal directly by appending /?action=login to the Portal URL. That means if you use that version of the link, users will be taken straight to the Sign In modal immediately instead of needing to look for the option manually.

They are appearing in the menu but it doesn´t really matter because nobody can find them there because that´s not a natural or intuitive place where people are looking for them. IF Login instead of Upgrade shows up for logged out users at locked pages/pickaxes it would already solve the problem but the option to have an always display login/signup button for logged out users would for sure help conversions for the free sign up.

I say this should be optional because while it´s great for me (and everyone who makes them sign up before they can use anything) it´s not so great for people who offer to use it without sign up. BUt then again the main problem is that “upgrade” button instead of a sign up/sign in button when access is locked for people who are LOGGED OUT.

Did I explain my point good enough?

Hi @easydeutsch ,

Thank you for confirming that the login options are still available in the menu, and for clarifying that your request is about improving how they are presented on mobile.

I am going to move this thread to Feature Requests so we can track interest more clearly and gather feedback from other users on the mobile login flow.

Separately, for locked tools and pages, we are currently implementing an update so that the message shown there follows the upgrade path configured for the end user’s access group. Once that is live, you will be able to adjust that text to better match your intended flow, including using sign up language instead of upgrade where appropriate.

I will update you here once that change is live.

Hi @easydeutsch ,

Thank you again for your patience.

The update we mentioned has now been implemented. Locked tools and pages now follow the upgrade path configured for the end user’s access group, including the guest access group.

This means you can now update the Guest access group’s upgrade path and change the message and CTA shown on locked tools/ pages to better match your intended flow, for example, by using sign up or log in language instead of upgrade. Alternatively, you can set the upgrade path to an external link that points to your portal’s sign-up flow. You can do that by using your portal link with /?action=login appended to it so the sign-in or sign-up modal opens automatically.
