Nano Banana COSTS $$$$$

It’s great to have access to Nano Banana and it is amazing! But for those of us with paying customers, this creates issues…

  • Looks like Pickaxe charges $.25 for 1 image!! And we know that users rarely are satisfied with the first draft. God forbid they get curious or creative!!
  • My pricing is set up to be profitable and competitive with ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, etc. But If my subscribers start making even just a few images per day, it eats up all of my profits!
  • I notice that Pickaxe is charging .25 per image, but Google also has a 2K option for .13. Do we have that option?
  • Can we limit the number of images users can create per day or month?

Users, how are you handling this?

It would be nice if we had separate credits for images. That way we could price effectively.

Currently, as we just rolled out the system late last week, we’re using a fairly inaccurate cost approximation. We have to charge whatever the highest possible cost would be, because the system is pretty basic. If you’re a new user and playing around with Pickaxe & Nano Banana, this is an awesome way to get started and the cost won’t matter as much, but for users working at scale, it’s still better to drop in your own API key!

Over the next few weeks we’ll get more specific with our cost calculations on an action by action basis, and end up charging less, so this can also be a great resource for high volume users.

Hi Nathaniel and Pickaxe Team,

Please, we urgently need the option to select the gemini-2.5-flash-image model (Also is Nano banana). Its image quality is nearly identical to Gemini 3 Pro image and significantly superior to Flux or GPT models, but the price difference is massive.
We are currently specializing in image and video generation systems on Pickaxe. However, we’ve hit a major roadblock regarding cost-efficiency and model selection.

The Cost Gap (Gemini 3 Pro vs. Gemini 2.5 Flash):

  • Image Generation (Output): Gemini 3 Pro is 515% more expensive ($0.24 vs $0.039).

  • Image Analysis (Input): Gemini 3 Pro is 633% more expensive ($0.0011 vs $0.00015).

The Problem: Currently, Pickaxe doesn’t allow us to target the Flash model specifically. Using the Pro model (at $0.25 or via our own API) makes our high-volume specialized tools not profitable.

The 2.5 Flash model offers the perfect quality-to-price balance. Please consider adding this model to the Pickaxe Action/Model selector so we can scale our developments profitably.

Thanks!!
Maria

If it is indeed urgent you can immediately start building out a custom action to use the model you’re interested in! Shouldn’t be more than 20 lines of code. We’ll consider adding a public one soon!

Thank you for the immediate response! :purple_heart: You guys are the best, and this level of support is exactly why I’m loving Pickaxe.

Please, also you can include Video Generation models. This would open up massive business opportunities for all Pickaxe users!

To give you some context on the current market and why this is a “game-changer”:

  • Market Standards: Other platforms are now offering unlimited images and video for around $24/month on selected models (e.g., Freepik).

  • Pickaxe: While Sora is famous, its quality and pricing are not yet competitive for business. Similarly, Veo 3 is spectacular and offers cinematic quality, but its price point remains too high for most scalable projects.

  • The Sweet Spot (Quality vs. Price): There are models with an incredible balance. For example, with $24, we can generate nearly 200 high-quality videos using models like Kling 2.1 or Seedance.

Integrating these types of cost-effective video models would allow us to build specialized, profitable tools that are currently impossible to sustain with high-end pricing. ( Kling 2.1 ) Important for Cinamatographic quality: Needs to have first and last frame.

Please, please consider including these options! It would take Pickaxe to a whole new level of creative power.

Thanks!!
